Women of the Woods -- Learn to Backcountry Canoe Trip

Itinerary

Meet at the Milford House for 3pm on Friday, check in to your cabin and then meet your female guides for drinks on the verandah. Later you'll have a group dinner at the Milford House dining room. Your evening will be spent learning about camping equipment and packing!

Next morning you'll meet your group for breakfast at the Milford House dining room, followed by a session on maps and navigation for paddlers (compass, gps, cellphones, satellite), pack your canoes and set off to Boot Lake. There will be a small introduction to basic paddle strokes included.

After short paddle you'll locate your campsite, set up camp, then pack a lunch and set off for a portaging clinic, followed by some time at the beach, swimming and lunch!

Afternoon topics could include: backcountry etiquette, portaging etiquette, backcountry safety (wildlife, weather), backcountry cuisine.

Group participating in preparing dinner, followed by dessert, story telling, and, weather permitting, star-gazing paddle on Boot Lake.

Backcountry breakfast in the AM, paddle back to Milford House, quick wrap-up and goodbye's!

Don't worry, we will provide you with clean drinking water (and one of our cool Whynot Adventure 1000ml/32oz water bottles), we won't make you share a tent with a stranger and the bugs are never so bad you won't have fun (July/August and September have little to no bugs!). Also there will be a private thunder box at the camp site. Oh, and we take coffee seriously. It’s french press in the backcountry, with a locally roasted bean. We grind at the campsite for freshness.
